Auto Repair
Automotive Electrical & Electronics
Electrical faults are where parts-swapping fails most expensively, because the symptom and the cause are often nowhere near each other.
What you might be noticing
If any of this sounds familiar, it is worth having looked at.
- No start, slow crank, or a click with no crank
- Battery goes flat overnight or over a few days
- Warning lights that come and go
- Accessories that work intermittently
- Charging system light, or voltage reading oddly
- Modules not communicating, or a scan tool that cannot connect
A no-start can be a battery, a cable, a ground, a relay, a module or a wiring fault, and the only way through is to test rather than assume. We measure voltage drop, load-test properly, and trace circuits instead of replacing the most likely part and hoping.
Intermittent faults are the hardest and the most worth doing properly. If it only happens when it is wet, or cold, or over a bump, that is information — and chasing it methodically is cheaper than three rounds of replaced parts.
How we approach it
- 01
Test battery and charging properly
Load test and voltage drop, not just a reading at rest.
- 02
Reproduce the fault
For intermittents, when and under what conditions matters more than the code.
- 03
Trace the circuit
Wiring diagrams, grounds and connectors, rather than replacing the part the code names.
- 04
Prove the repair
The fault has to stay gone under the conditions that caused it.
Pricing
We quote this work once we have seen the vehicle. The same job can differ a lot between model years and conditions, and we would rather give you a real number than a low one we have to walk back at the counter. Call and we will tell you what diagnosis costs and what the realistic range looks like.
Every repair backed by our 24 month / 24,000 mile warranty
Prices are pre-tax and cover the work described. Anything we find that changes the job gets discussed with you before it happens.
Common questions
My battery is new but the car still will not start. What now?
A new battery rules out one thing, not the system. Cables, grounds, the starter, relays and parasitic draw all cause the same symptom. We measure voltage drop and load-test rather than replacing the next most likely part.
What is a parasitic draw?
Something continuing to draw current after the vehicle is shut down and asleep. It flattens a good battery over days rather than instantly. Finding it means measuring the draw and then isolating circuits methodically — it is time-consuming but it is the only reliable way.
Why is an intermittent fault harder to diagnose?
Because we have to catch it happening. If it only occurs when wet, cold, or over a bump, that is genuinely useful information — tell us, because it narrows the search enormously and saves you money.
Can you fix wiring, or do I need a whole harness?
Usually we can repair the section at fault. Replacing a full harness is rarely necessary and is a very large job. We trace the circuit and repair properly rather than defaulting to the biggest option.
My scan tool cannot connect. Is the computer dead?
Not necessarily. No communication is more often a power, ground or network wiring fault than a failed module. Modules are expensive, so it is worth proving before replacing.
