Ford is what we know best — the engines, the drivetrains, the electronics, and the failure patterns that come with them. That is a different thing from a shop that will happily work on anything.
Specialising means knowing how one manufacturer fails, not owning a scan tool that reads every badge. Ford publishes a great deal of service information about known conditions, and knowing which of it applies to the vehicle in front of us frequently changes both the diagnosis and the repair.
That matters most on the turbocharged EcoBoost engines, where the same symptom can be a straightforward repair or an engine, and the difference is not visible from the driver’s seat. It matters again on Power Stroke diesels, where faults behave differently under sustained load than they do at idle in a workshop bay.
We diagnose before we quote. Where a repair depends on the condition of something we cannot see yet, we say so before you commit to it rather than after.
Why we specialise in Ford
I trained and worked as a technician at a Ford dealership, and I have stayed in the Ford world ever since. I have worked on plenty of other makes — most technicians have — but Ford is where the depth is, and depth is the thing that actually changes an outcome for a customer.
That means the Ford special service tools the job genuinely requires, and a subscription to Ford’s own technical service information — the same data a dealership technician works from. When Ford publishes something about a known condition, we are reading the actual document rather than a forum thread about it.
It is also personal. Every vehicle I own is a Ford. I am not learning your car on your money.
We work on other makes too, and we are honest about that rather than pretending otherwise. But if you have a Ford, you are not getting a general repair shop that will look it up — you are getting someone who already knows the platform.

Work we have actually done
- 2019 Fusion
2019 Fusion — severe steering rack corrosion, outside the recall
- Complaint
- Brought in for inspection. Steering-gear area showing corrosion well beyond the surface rust normal on a New England car of this age.
- Diagnosis
- Severe corrosion around the steering gear and motor attachment area. Ford recall 19S26 covers motor attachment bolt corrosion on certain 2013–2016 Fusion and MKZ — this 2019 is outside that population and does not qualify for the recall. We have not established that the failure mechanism is identical, and we are not claiming it is. What we can say is that the corrosion on this car is real and it is on a later vehicle than the ones Ford named.
- Repair
- Assessment ongoing. Documented here because a Fusion owner asking whether a later car can corrode deserves to see one rather than be told it is not covered by a recall.
- 2017 Escape
2017 Escape 2.0 EcoBoost — coolant in cylinder 3
- Complaint
- Coolant level dropping with nothing on the ground, a misfire that was worst on a cold start, and white smoke from the exhaust.
- Diagnosis
- Cooling system pressure-tested cold and would not hold. No external leak at any hose, the radiator, the pump or the housings. Plugs out and a physical inspection confirmed coolant entering cylinder 3 — which establishes where it is going, not yet what is damaged. Compression readings were not the thing that settled it; the inspection was.
- Repair
- In progress. The decision between a head-gasket repair and a long block depends on the condition of the block deck and bore bridges, and that is genuinely not knowable until the head is off. We will update this record and the article with what we actually find rather than with what we expect.
Common questions
What does being a Ford specialist actually mean?
In our case it means the owner trained and worked as a technician at a Ford dealership and has stayed with the make since, is ASE certified, keeps the Ford special service tools the work requires, and subscribes to Ford’s own technical service information. Practically, it means a misfire on a 2.0 EcoBoost or a shudder on a PowerShift transmission is a pattern we recognise rather than one we research — so diagnostic time is spent confirming instead of exploring.
Why not just go to the Ford dealer?
Sometimes you should, and we will tell you when. If your vehicle is in warranty, has an open recall, or needs a repair Ford is covering, the dealer is the right answer and we will say so rather than take the work. Out of warranty, you are usually paying dealer rates for the same diagnosis, and you get a repair chosen for one vehicle rather than a procedure written to be repeatable across thousands.
Will using an independent shop void my Ford warranty?
No. In the United States you are entitled to have maintenance and repairs performed outside a dealer without voiding a factory warranty, provided the work meets specification and is documented. We use specified fluids and parts and record what was done. What we cannot do is perform warranty repairs on Ford’s behalf — those have to go through a dealer.
Are you a Ford dealer, or affiliated with Ford?
No. We are an independent shop. The owner trained and worked as a technician at a Ford dealership, and we subscribe to Ford’s technical service information, but we are not a franchised dealer and we cannot perform warranty or recall work on Ford’s behalf. When that is what you need, we will tell you to go to a dealer.
Do you use genuine Ford parts?
Where it matters, yes, and we will tell you what we are fitting and why. For some components the OEM part is the only sensible choice; for others a quality aftermarket part is equivalent or better. We would rather explain the difference and let you decide than quietly fit the cheapest option.
Can you tell me if there is a TSB or recall on my vehicle?
We can tell you what Ford has published about a known condition and whether your vehicle looks like it fits the described pattern. We cannot tell you whether your specific VIN qualifies — that depends on build date and diagnostic criteria only a franchised dealer can check. A service bulletin is also not a recall, and it does not automatically mean the repair is free.
What warranty do you give on a repair?
Twenty-four months or twenty-four thousand miles, whichever comes first, on every repair. That is longer than most independent shops offer and longer than most certification programmes require as a minimum. We are comfortable standing behind the work that long because of how it is diagnosed in the first place.
Why does diagnosis cost money?
Because it is the work. Finding out what is actually wrong takes time, equipment and pattern knowledge, and it is the part that stops you paying for a repair that does not fix the problem. We tell you the diagnostic fee before we start, and we tell you what we found before we quote anything.
Do you work on EcoBoost engines?
Extensively — they are a large share of what comes through. Turbocharged engines have to be tested under the conditions where the fault appears, which means boost-side integrity, fuel trims and cooling under load rather than a code read at idle. A great many EcoBoost complaints are misdiagnosed because that step is skipped.
Do you work on Power Stroke diesels?
Yes. Diesel diagnosis is its own discipline — fuel system, emissions, turbocharging and cooling behave differently under sustained load than in a workshop bay, so that is where we test them.
Which Fords do you work on?
Effectively the whole current and recent range — F-150, Super Duty, Explorer, Escape, Edge, Fusion, Mustang, Expedition, Bronco, Ranger, Maverick, Transit and the rest. If a model is not listed on this site, call us; the list reflects what we have written up, not the limit of what we service.
Do you work on Lincoln as well?
Yes. Lincoln shares a great deal of engineering with Ford, including the engines where known failure patterns matter most, so the same specialist knowledge applies directly.
What happens if you find something else once the job is underway?
We stop and call you. Nothing gets added to a repair without you agreeing to it first. On engine work in particular there are findings that only become visible once something is apart, and we tell you up front when that is a realistic possibility rather than presenting it as a surprise later.
Can you look at a Ford I am thinking of buying?
Yes, and on some models it is money very well spent. A pre-purchase inspection on an EcoBoost vehicle in particular can tell you things a test drive will not — coolant history, boost-side integrity and evidence of deferred maintenance.
