Scheduled Maintenance & Servicing
Maintenance is the cheapest work a vehicle will ever have done, and the easiest to do badly. The specification matters more than the interval.
What you might be noticing
If any of this sounds familiar, it is worth having looked at.
- Maintenance light or service message on the dash
- Oil change overdue, or unsure when it was last done
- Recently bought the vehicle with no service history
- Fluid looks dark or low, or you are not sure it has ever been changed
- Preparing for a long trip or for winter
We use the fluids and filters the manufacturer specifies, because on modern engines and transmissions the specification is not marketing — it is a tolerance. The wrong oil in a variable-timing engine, or the wrong fluid in an automatic, causes problems that look unrelated months later.
Every service includes an inspection, and the point of the inspection is to tell you what is coming rather than to sell it to you today. Items get reported as needs attention now, worth planning for, or fine — and we are happy to say fine.
How we approach it
- 01
Check what the vehicle calls for
Manufacturer specification and interval for this engine, not a generic service.
- 02
Use the specified fluids and filters
On modern engines the spec is a tolerance, not a suggestion.
- 03
Inspect and report
Needs attention now, worth planning for, or fine.
- 04
Record it
So the next service knows what the last one found.
Pricing
We quote this work once we have seen the vehicle. The same job can differ a lot between model years and conditions, and we would rather give you a real number than a low one we have to walk back at the counter. Call and we will tell you what diagnosis costs and what the realistic range looks like.
Every repair backed by our 24 month / 24,000 mile warranty
Prices are pre-tax and cover the work described. Anything we find that changes the job gets discussed with you before it happens.
Common questions
How often should I really change the oil?
Follow what your vehicle specifies for its engine and how you drive. Short trips, towing and extreme temperatures are genuinely harder on oil than steady highway miles, and modern intervals assume the right specification oil is used.
Does it matter which oil you use?
Yes, more than people expect. On engines with variable valve timing and turbochargers the specification is a tolerance, not a suggestion, and the wrong oil causes problems that look unrelated months later.
I bought the car with no service history. Where do I start?
With an inspection and a baseline. We check condition rather than guessing at what was done, bring the fluids that are due up to date, and give you a written picture of what needs attention now versus what can be planned.
Do I have to service at a dealer to keep my warranty?
No. In the United States you are entitled to have maintenance performed elsewhere without voiding a factory warranty, provided the work meets specification and is documented. We use specified fluids and filters and record what was done.
What does your inspection actually cover?
Brakes, tyres, suspension, fluids, belts, hoses, lights and anything visible that is going to need attention. Items get reported as needs attention now, worth planning for, or fine — and we are happy to say fine.
