Air Conditioning & Heating Repair
An air conditioning system that is low on refrigerant is low for a reason. Recharging it without finding the leak is a service that lasts until the weather turns.
What you might be noticing
If any of this sounds familiar, it is worth having looked at.
- A/C blows warm, or cools then stops
- Air only comes from some vents
- Blower works on some speeds but not others
- Heat is weak, or hot on one side and cold on the other
- Noise or squeal when the A/C engages
- Musty smell when the fan comes on
We find leaks before we recharge. Dye, electronic detection and pressure testing establish where the refrigerant is going, and the repair addresses that rather than topping up a system that will empty again.
Not every heating or cooling complaint is refrigerant. Blend door actuators, blower resistors, cabin filters and control modules all produce symptoms that look like a failed A/C system, and they are considerably cheaper to fix.
How we approach it
- 01
Measure performance first
Vent temperature and system pressures before anything is added.
- 02
Find the leak
Dye and electronic detection, rather than recharging and hoping.
- 03
Check the non-refrigerant causes
Blend doors, actuators, blower and cabin filter.
- 04
Evacuate, recharge to spec, verify
By weight, not by guess, then re-tested.
Pricing
We quote this work once we have seen the vehicle. The same job can differ a lot between model years and conditions, and we would rather give you a real number than a low one we have to walk back at the counter. Call and we will tell you what diagnosis costs and what the realistic range looks like.
Every repair backed by our 24 month / 24,000 mile warranty
Prices are pre-tax and cover the work described. Anything we find that changes the job gets discussed with you before it happens.
Common questions
Can you just recharge my A/C?
We can, but if it is low it is low because it leaked, and a recharge without a repair lasts until the weather turns. We would rather find the leak and tell you what fixing it costs so you can decide properly.
Why is my A/C cold on one side and warm on the other?
That is usually a blend door or actuator rather than the refrigerant system, and it is a considerably cheaper repair. It is worth checking before anyone opens the A/C system.
My blower only works on high. What is that?
Classically a blower motor resistor or its wiring. It is a common, well-understood fault and not usually expensive.
Why does my car smell musty when I turn on the fan?
Usually microbial growth on the evaporator plus a neglected cabin air filter. The filter is straightforward; the evaporator may need treating. Neither is an emergency but both are unpleasant.
Is a weak heater a cooling system problem?
Often, yes. Weak heat can mean low coolant, a stuck thermostat or a restricted heater core — which is why we check the cooling system rather than treating heat and A/C as separate.
